Get Jeff to Graduation!Jeff Lester needs your help to attend his graduation this year (May 1, 2011) in Michigan from his home in Missouri. His disability, which will be explained further in Jeff’s road to graduation story below, restricts his ability to travel since he can no longer fly commercially and long distances traveling by van are difficult to handle in his condition which becomes impossible given that his handicapped accessible van is now over 15 years old. Therefore, Jeff will need to have a wheelchair accessible plane to fly him and his family to and from his graduation which obviously will be quite expensive. Jeff Lester is not asking for any individual donations for his cause but after multiple requests to do it has setup a donations section and has consented to his hometown friends request to put on a benefit and raffle to help him achieve his goal. However he continues to request that you do three things:
Jeff Lester does not just want this to be about him getting to his graduation even though admittedly this is a primary motivation for him personally. He hopes to use this platform to raise awareness for ALS in general as well as increased emphasis on ALS research. Hopefully, Jeff can begin to change attitudes and perceptions about what having a disability means while showing that with the assistance of technology the abilities and capabilities that someone with a disability can develop and achieve. That those with disabilities have much they can contribute to a business or organization and to society as a whole if they’re only given the opportunity. Contact Jeff |
